About marriage in Australia
In Australia, men and women over 18 years old can get married. You don’t have to get married if you don’t want to.
Ask for help if you’re worried or confused. Talk to a friend or someone you trust, even if people are telling you not to.

What happens if I talk to someone?
There are people you can go to for help. They can support you to make your own decisions.

More information about marriage
Nobody can force you to get married. It doesn’t matter
- what your age is
- what country or family background you come from
- whether you are male or female
- what your culture or religion is
If you are under 18 you can’t get married except in very special circumstances when a judge at a court agrees. If you’re under the age of 16 you can’t get married at all.
